Hey there, new parents! Exhausted from those late-night feedings but utterly smitten with that tiny human you created? Been there, totally get it! Those early weeks with a newborn are a whirlwind of emotions, and before you know it, those teensy fingers and button nose will be a distant memory. That’s why you need a newborn session!

I have been photographing newborns in Bedfordshire for last 11 years, and I just adore all the baby feels, capturing perfect memories and letting you sit back and enjoy the session.

This blog post will guide you through everything you need to know to prepare for your newborn photoshoot, whether you choose the studio or your own home environment.

Timing is Everything

Ideally, schedule your newborn session within the first 2-3 weeks of your baby’s life. Newborns are extra sleepy and flexible during this stage, making for smoother posing and a calmer experience for everyone (especially you!) I totally understand that this time frame might not work for everyone, so make sure your reach out and let me know what’s more practical.

Studio Setting

Think warm lighting, soft textures, and a whole lot of cozy vibes. I have lots of baskets, wraps, hats and more, but feel free to bring anything personal you’d like incorporated. The studio should be a place where you can sit back and watch as I carefully pose your baby, to get those stunning newborn photos to go up on your wall!

Home Setting

If you are wanting a more relaxed, unposed session – maybe with you feeding bubba, having snuggles and just capturing for day to day new parent life – then this is for you. Choose a space in your home with lots of natural light, and we can enjoy your everyday space for the backdrop to the shoot.

What to Expect

I aim to created the most calming of atmospheres – if we are calm, baby will be calm and that is what we need!

There is no need to worry about poo explosions or if baby seems extra fussy in the shoot – I have seen it all and take it all in my stride. I will mould the shoot to suit you and your baby, just trust the process!

The shoots can last between 1 – 3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeds, changes and of course the all important cuddles.

The studio will be toasty! Babies like to be cozy and warm, so you’ll need to be aware of that when you’re dressing for the shoot.

I have mastered the art of carefully and safely posing babies, so they are in very good hands throughout the shoot. Your baby’s comfort always comes first, so I never force any poses.

Parents, siblings and pets are always welcome to join in with sessions – these moments with newborns are so fleeting, so I actively encourage you to get involved in the photos too.

The Perfect Fit

  • Studio Perks: Controlled lighting, a variety of backdrops and props, and a dedicated photography space offer a consistent and professional experience.
  • In-Home Perks: Enjoy the comfort and familiarity of your own surroundings. This can be a lifesaver if you have siblings or pets who might feel more at ease at home.
